The Health Resort Plau am See
A delightful small town in the Mecklenburg Lake District
Picturesque old town, overlooking the waterfront. Germany’s seventh largest lake, right on the doorstep. Welcome to the health resort Plau am See. ‘Plawe’ (ferryman’s town) was granted city rights as far back as 1235. Semi-timbered and brick houses are typical of the old town and create an enchanting holiday atmosphere. The city’s landmark is doubtless the blue lift bridge right in the centre. The cafés, restaurants and shops dotted all around invite guests to linger and stroll.
The latest highlight in Plau am See is the vantage tower, situated directly where the Müritz-Elde Canal flows into Lake Plau.
Each year the bathtub race promises fun and games on the water, just off the old town. The first one was held in 1990. Drawing on the standard distance in Canada and Australia, where the first bathtub races took place, contestants are required to navigate a 579 m course.
